I have made various posts lately asking you all to share how long you have been nursing. Even I get surprised at how many of us are nursing toddlers and small children. But recently someone made a comment that made me think about making another post. She said something about not having nursed as long as the other commenters. It made me think about the sense of competition that can arise when sharing numbers like this. I just wanted to say that there is no magic number that makes you an official “badass.” Every person deserves the support they need to reach their breastfeeding goals. But we do not all have the same goals. Your breastfeeding relationship belongs to you and your child. You are the one who has to live with it. No one else can tell you how long you should breastfeed or that you should breastfeed at all. The one thing I want for you is to have all of the information. What you decide based on that information is not my business. This community belongs to you no matter what your story is.
And by the way, it’s my birthday today so I am going to share one of my favorite photos from my birthday 2 years ago. This is what I think of when I think about my own story. I love my story and I love all of your different stories as well.
